Avoid Ramadan for lower costs. Winter (Nov-Feb) offers the best weather.
2. The 4 Essential Rituals
Umrah is composed of four pillars. Missing any may invalidate your Umrah.
Ihram (Intention)
The sacred state entered at the Miqat. Men wear two white unstitched sheets. Women wear modest clothing. The niyyah (intention) is made here.
Tawaf (Circumambulation)
Circling the Holy Kaaba seven times counter-clockwise. Start at the Hajar al-Aswad (Black Stone). Recite prayers and supplications.
Sa'i (Walking)
Walking seven times between the hills of Safa and Marwah. This commemorates Hajar's search for water.
Halq or Taqsir (Shaving/Cutting)
Men shave their head (Halq) or trim (Taqsir). Women cut a small fingertip length of hair. This marks the exit from Ihram.
3. Transportation Logic
Moving between key locations efficiently saves your energy for worship. See our dedicated Transportation Guide for detailed comparisons.
4. Packing Essentials
- Ihram Sheets: 2 sets for men (in case one gets soiled).
- Unscented Soap/Deodorant: Mandatory while in Ihram.
- Comfortable Sandals: You will walk 10km+ per day.
- Power Bank: Long days in the Haram deplete batteries.
