The Ultimate Guide to Umrah with Kids: Strollers, Car Seats, and Snacks (2025)
Published: December 16, 2025
"Will my kids survive the heat?" "What if they cry in the Haram?" "How do we manage the stroller?"
Taking children to Umrah is a beautiful challenge. You are planting the seeds of Iman in their hearts, but you are also managing feedings, tantrums, and jet lag.
As parents who have done it, here is your survival guide for Umrah with children in 2025.
1. The Stroller Dilemma
Should you bring it? YES. Even if your child walks at home, they will not walk 10km in Makkah.
- Type: Bring a lightweight "umbrella" stroller that folds quickly.
- Inside the Haram: Strollers are generally NOT allowed on the ground floor Mataf closer to the Kaaba during peak times. You can use them on the upper floors/roof.
- Storage: You can leave strollers at designated points outside the gates (at your own risk), or fold them small and carry them if security allows (varies by guard).
2. Car Seats: Safety First (Important!)
In Saudi Arabia, car seats are growing in usage, but most standard taxis DO NOT have them.
Do not hold your baby in your lap on the highway doing 120km/h.
The Solution:
- Option A: Bring your own car seat (airlines check them for free).
- Option B (Easiest): Book with UmrahTransit. We are one of the few providers that can provide a child seat upon request (subject to availability, please mention in booking notes).
3. Managing the Heat & Health
- Timing: Keep kids indoors from 12 PM to 4 PM. The sun is brutal.
- Hydration: Giving them cold Zamzam is blessed, but also buy juice/electrolytes.
- Clothing: Dress them in light cotton. White Thobes for boys are cute but get dirty in 5 minutesβbring spares!
4. Keeping Them Occupied
- Digital Detox? Maybe later. Download Islamic cartoons (Omar & Hana) for the 5-hour drive between Makkah and Madinah.
- Snacks: Local Saudi snacks are sugary. Pack healthy snacks from home (fruit bars, crackers) for the road.
5. Ziarat with Kids
Kids get bored at historical sites if they don't understand them.
- Uhud: Tell them the story of the Archers before you climb the hill.
- Quba: Tell them about the "First Mosque."
- Wadi Jinn: This is the highlight for kids! The car moves uphill on its own. It's a "magic" physics lesson they will love.
Why Families Love Our "Family Van" (Hyundai Staria)
For families with kids, we recommend the Hyundai Staria or GMC Yukon.
- Space: Kids can spread out.
- Privacy: Tinted windows for nursing mothers or nap time.
- AC: Powerful rear AC vents to keep the little ones cool.
- Patience: Our drivers are used to families. We don't mind if you need to stop for a bathroom break.
Make Umrah a core memory for your children, not a stress test.
